After a long, long wait there was finally Coyote basketball last night. I think first and foremost we should be grateful that we managed that in the year that is 2020.
In the first half, the team looked exactly like a team that hadn’t had much time together as a whole and one that is breaking in tons of new faces. Turnovers and rebounding plagued the Yotes and led to a 14 point deficit at the half.
The constant for the game was shots simply were not falling. The Yotes shot 33.3% in the first and second half, including just 3/20 from beyond the arc.
Stanely Umude was as advertised. He dropped 24 including his 1,000 career point on a dunk in the second half. Ty Chisom came to life in the second half and added 12 to go along with 9 rebounds. Point guard AJ Plitzuweit added 9 and showed flashes of being really good.
The good news is if you look at the final stats the Coyotes managed to almost completely eliminate the rebounding advantage Colorado took into the half. They simply did not shoot well enough to dig them out of the early hole.
Coach Lee used 10 players, giving him a look at multiple lineups and getting the guys that all so valuable game experience under the belt.
The road doesn’t get any easier this holiday weekend as the Yotes next play Drake who knocked of Kansas St on the Wildcats home floor. Tip is set for 1pm on Friday.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours and Go Yotes.
