Reaching the Summit Men’s Players of the Week 2/1/22

Posted on February 1, 2022 By Todd Buckingham No Comments on Reaching the Summit Men’s Players of the Week 2/1/22

Senior of the week

Forward Douglas Wilson South Dakota State

The former Summit League Player of the Year takes home his 3rd senior of the week honors this year. The Jackrabbits remain undefeated in Summit League play and Wilson is a huge reason why. Wilson was the Jackrabbits leading scorer this week as he averaged 20.5 points in a pair of wins. Wilson added 5.5 rebounds also.

Junior of the Week

Guard Max Abmas Oral Roberts

There is plenty of competition with Abmas in the Junior class. The fact that there is so much competition makes it even more impressive that Abmas is taking home the award for the 5th time this season. It was hard to argue for Abmas getting the award this week. Abmas scored 28 points twice this week as the Golden Eagles put some distance from the 3rd place teams in the standings with a perfect week. The nation’s second-leading scorer also added 4 assists per game this week.

Sophomore of the Week

Guard/Forward Baylor Scheierman South Dakota State

With his 6th Sophomore of the Week award, Scheierman has officially won the award half the times it has been awarded. None of this is surprising given Scheierman has the most well-rounded statistics in the Summit League. Scheierman is 7th in scoring and leads the Summit in rebounds and assists per game this season. This week, Scheierman averaged 18 points, 7 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game.

Congratulations to Fidler on his first Freshman of the Week award. Fidler made plays all week,  but the most impressive was his game-winning buzzer-beating floater to upend Kansas City on Saturday. This week Fidler averaged 19.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in leading the Mavericks.

Defensive Player of the Week

Guard Marvin Nesbitt Kansas City

Back-to-back defensive players of the week from Kansas City are indicative of the Roos playing their kind of basketball and finding a rhythm. All of this is starting to show as the Roos continue to climb the Summit League standings. This week, Lamar averaged over 2 steals per game, and almost 4 offensive rebounds a game for the Roos.
