Senior of the Week
Guard Anders Nelson, St. Thomas
Nelson wins senior of the week for the second time this season and for good reason. Nelson was a huge lift for the Tommies as they split their first Summit League week and continue to prove they will be a challenge for opponents this season. Nelson averaged 22.5 points along with 3 assists, and 2 rebounds this week for the Tommies.

Junior of the Week
Guard Trenton Massner Western Illinois
It’s maybe not surprising that the Summit League player of the week wins our junior of the week award. Massner wins the award for the 2nd time. The road split was probably not the result that Western Illinois was looking for but this didn’t have anything to do with the Junior guard’s efforts. In a week that had some amazing junior performances, Massner stood out. Massner averaged 28.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Sophomore of the Week
Guard Baylor Scheierman, South Dakota State
Scheierman grabs his third sophomore of the week award for the season. Scheierman continues to do good things in just about every aspect on the floor. Which is part of the reason his name continues to be mentioned for this award. This week, Scheierman averaged 15 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4 assists.

If you want to talk players on a hot streak, look no further than Paul Bruns. Bruns wins the freshmen of the week award for the 3rd straight week. Bruns wasn’t without competition this week as 5 players received votes, but ultimately Bruns comes out on top again. Bruns scored 27 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 assists in the Fighting Hawks lone game this week.

Defensive Player of the Week
Guard Charlie Easley
Some will ask why a player who didn’t block a shot, grabbed a single offensive rebound and had two steals won the defensive player of the year. Well, it can be answered this way. Prior to the announcement of the starting lineup in the matchup against Oral Roberts, it was speculated by many that Easley would be inserted in the starting to chase all-league guard Max Abmas. Sure enough, there was Easley. Easley harassed and held in check Abmas for most of the game. Yes, Abmas ended at 19, but few players can make him work as hard as Easley did that night.
