Eights months into a pandemic one should cling to any hope being offered. The hope for many is college basketball. More specifically, in and around Vermillion, SD, Coyote basketball.
While any tip off and game that gets put into the books should be considered a victory on some level, the schedule Yote fans are looking at does leave a bit to be desired, and I think we at least deserve a moment to shout into the night about it.
If you’re a Summit fan in the state of South Dakota, there is one game that stands far, far out from the rest. The U vs. State. A true rivalry. And while I’ve been personally beating the drum for us to drum up some ‘hate’ for other schools in the league, it’s simply a fact that this is the one that stands out. It’s bragging rights, it’s hate, it’s absolutely the one ‘must be there’ kinda games each year.
With the schedules officially released, a total of 12 events from football all the way down to tennis will all take place in Brookings. They even moved the Summit League Volleyball tournament to Sioux Falls instead of Vermillion. (USD retains rights to host next season). It has left many Yote fans wondering if May graduation will be moved to Brookings.
It’s 2020 and we should be grateful if we get any games no matter where they play. But I also believe Yote fans do deserve to take a moment or 3 to be annoyed and angry about it all.
Eventually we will roll with it, but we are gonna need our moment. Forgive us.
