In case you didn’t know, the Summit League dropped their conference schedule for the 20-21 season. This post will be mostly devoted to the analysis of the UND portion of the schedule, however I will give my overall thoughts to the schedule as well.
Overall
-Kudos to the league in coming up with a way to get some games on some home courts. Some of the rivals will get shafted but its better than no games.
-Like the idea of the BYE week, I hope it doesn’t get used for its intention (which is to reschedule games). However, I am glad that there is this flexibility so they can get as many games in as they possibly can.
-Going to be interesting to see how teams will be able to adjust to playing back to back nights against the same team.
A glance at UND schedule
-UND has a nice home schedule. They get Kansas City to start out league play. They also will get Western Illinois at home as well. The big games are the rivals NDSU and USD, two of the teams that they will be fighting against for a top 4 spot in the conference. It will be important for UND to defend the home court because…
The road swing is going to be TOUGH. You get trips to SDSU and ORU, the pre-season top two picks in the league. Then to Omaha, who UND has had a long losing streak against and the other team they will be fighting against for a top 4 seed. Then a trip to Denver in the altitude.
The BYE week is LATE, they will have it during the last week of conference play. So if all goes according to plan, it will be two weeks between their last game and Sioux Falls. Of course, COVID can cause the schedule to be juggled, but lets say it doesn’t. That is a long time to be off and I am going to guess that they won’t have a chance to schedule any games during that week off. The plus side is that they can get healed up. But the rust factor will be something to watch.
The Basketball team might have to take a mantrum from the hockey team. Sweep at home and split on the road.
Hope to get the rest of the schedule soon. Nov. 25th can’t get here soon enough. I’m ready for the basketball.
