After a rough start to the season, the North Dakota women’s basketball team has turned a bit of a corner with everyone back to full health (minus Gordon). UND got another victory over the weekend by getting comfortable win over UMAC Minnesota-Morris
Scores:
1st Quarter: UND 29, UMM 16
2nd Quarter: UND 50, UMM 26
3rd Quarter: UND 73, UMM 43
4th Quarter: UND 97, UMM 55
Olivia Lane used a dominate first quarter to score 11 of her season high 22 points. She also grabbed 6 rebounds and 3 steals. This was good to see as they continues to work her way back into the lineup.
Kacie Borowicz continues to show why she is one of the better guards in the league. She scored 16 points on 7-13 shooting and dropped 10 assists to record a double-double. It is no secret that the team started to take off with the return of Kacie to the starting lineup.
One of the advantages of having a big lead was getting some of the other players some time on the court. Freshman Ally McCarthy made good use of her 15 minutes by crashing the boards hard, leading the team with 9 rebounds, including 4 on the offensive end.
Jodi Anderson and Sammiyah Hoskin also had nice games off of the bench. Anderson had 8 points and 3 assists, while Hoskin had 7 points and 7 rebounds, 5 of those on the offensive end. These two will continue to be important pieces off of the bench and their continued development will be critical for UNDs chances of climbing the Summit Standings.
After an 0-3 start, with multiple key players out due to COVID, UND is now winners of 4 out of their last 5 and have won 3 in a row. After the season to forget last year, this is very nice to see the team pile up wins and continue to gain some confidence going forward. There is certainly a strong possibly that this team will be sporting a winning record entering conference play. The team is off until Saturday, when they take a trip to Wisconsin to take on Marquette of the Big East conference.
