With Mike Dum and Skylar Flatten being on separate TBT teams this season I thought it would be fun to brainstorm a team of former Jackrabbit men. These players are from the D1 era and are no longer playing college basketball. When putting together the roster I tried to build a very versatile team that could create mismatches against any team they play.
The starting five for this team would be:
G Nate Wolters
G Deondre Parks
G Kai Williams
F Mike Daum
F Doug Wilson
The two guys I immediately penciled in were Nate and Mike, but I had a tough time narrowing it down to only five starters.. This lineup would give the team versatile scoring, primary ball handlers, and a good 4 wide on the perimeter. The remaining bench would be a mixed bag of players focused on scoring, defense, and length versatility.
Guards:
Chad White
Clint Sargent
George Marshall
G/F
Reed Tellinghuisen
Skyler Flatten
F
Jordan Dykstra
I went with an 11 man roster knowing most of the time they stick to seven or eight players. The guards would give different looks at styles and abilities. The G/F would give great length and versatility at the wings. Gan guards almost every position, and at the F we would have a scorer that gets put into the lineup without skipping a beat offensively.
Lastly, another tough position was the coach. The team would need someone to manage egos and know the game. I would probably recommend Tony Fiegen or Brayden Carlson as they have played with a few of the players and would understand how to push them the right way. I don’t think you could go wrong with either one.
Narrowing down the list of greats from just the D1 era wasn’t the easiest task as I was bound to miss a name or two. So who did I miss and who would sponsor/name the team? Let me know by responding to the story in the comments below or on twitter @jvonbeezy or @rabbitrundown.
