The Omaha Mavericks head coached by Chris Crutchfield in his second season are fresh off an 85-53 win over Doane University, and NAIA school in Crete, Nebraska. This season the Mavericks bring back lots of familiar players including, former Creighton Prep Junior Jay Luke Jungers, former Bellevue West Thunderbird Frankie Fidler, who is a Summit League player to watch, Marquel Sutton, Tony Osburn, Jaedan Marshall, and Ja’Sean Glover. They also add several new players to the roster including Mr. Kansas High School Basketball Grant Stubblefield, Tucker Mills, Marcel Bryant, Biko Johnson a Western Nebraska Community College transfer, and Nick Davis, a transfer from Southern Nazarene.
Tonight at 7pm, Omaha takes on a talented TCU squad who is currently receiving votes in the AP Top 25 poll. Omaha is a 27.5 underdog and looking to pull off a huge upset in Fort Worth. There already has been early drama in the college basketball world as James Madison the Sun Belt Preseason favorites shocked #4 Michigan State on opening night on Monday. On Saturday night at 7pm, Omaha takes on North Texas who moved from Conference USA to the American Athletic Conference and is known to make it to the NCAA Basketball Tournament and upset teams like in 2021 against #4 seed Purdue when they were a #13 seed.
For the game against TCU, there will be a decent cheering section for Omaha due to the UNO Alumni Association is hosting a pregame event and doing a thing called Mavs on the Move. Some of the family members of current Omaha Men’s Basketball players will be there too and the North Texas game including the family members of Nick Davis who is from Arlington, Texas.
