With a few games under our belt, it’s time for the first Reaching the Summit voter power rankings
- South Dakota State: 102 points (8) first place points
Jackrabbits take the top spot in the initial poll. Head into week 2 looking for their first division 1 victory, but voters felt they still deserved the top spot given they played a tough Akron team to open the season
2. North Dakota State: 99 points (3)
The Bison won on the road against Western Michigan and lost on the road to Creighton. Voters are high on the amount of returning players and their ability to win on the road in the early season.
3. St. Thomas: 76 points
Tommies lost a close one on the road to Cal out of the Pac-12 and won a squeaker against Idaho State at home. There was a fluctuation to where voters had the Tommies but most voters are high on the them.
4. Oral Roberts: 63 points
Golden Eagles lost a close one to UT Arlington on the road and got beat handily by Missouri State on the road. Their lone win right now is against a non-division 1 team. Voters repeatedly expressed concerns about the Golden Eagles early season.
5. North Dakota: 57 points
Fighting Hawks got beat up on the road against a tough Iowa team and then returned home to beat Elon comfortably. There was some pre-season hype, and the early returns seem to say it might have been worth it.
5. South Dakota: 57 points (1)
Coyotes were the team that had the voters buzzing the most. They looked very good putting up 100 points against UT Rio Grand Valley. They also beat a non-division 1.
7. Omaha: 40 points
Losses to TCU and North Texas both were expected so it’s hard to come to too many conclusions. However an 0-2 start is still an 0-2 start so some understandable concern with the Mavericks, mixed with optimism.
8. Denver: 23 points
Pioneers started the season with a 1-1 record. Their offense has looked very impressive and their defense has had some lapses. Voters will watch Denver closely to see if they can continue making big things happen on offense.
8. Kansas City: 23 points
Well, we have a tie at the bottom to start the season, and probably for good reason. Kansas City started the season 2-0 which might lead to the question as to why at the bottom, well both those wins against non-division 1 opponent
