The Jackrabbits charged into the semifinals of the Summit League Tournament determined to secure two victories. On the women’s front, the Jackrabbit squad showcased their prowess by toppling their in-state rivals with a commanding 76-63 triumph. Meanwhile, the men’s team engaged in a gritty battle against St. Thomas, emerging victorious with a hard-fought 59-49 win.
Leading the charge for the women’s team were the dynamic duo from Meyer and Meyer, whose combined efforts contributed a staggering 41 points out of the team’s total of 76. Brooklyn Meyer, in particular, showcased her exceptional skills, shooting an impressive 8-11 from the field. Her unwavering performance served as a beacon of strength for the Jackrabbits, especially during crucial moments when the Coyotes attempted to mount a comeback.
Looking ahead, the Jackrabbits are gearing up to face their most formidable adversary of the season: the NDSU Bison. In their previous encounter at Frost, the Jackrabbits emerged triumphant with a hard-earned 89-74 victory in a fiercely contested battle. Brooklyn Meyer, once again, emerged as a pivotal figure, dominating the game with an astonishing 29 points and 11 rebounds. As the Jackrabbits set their sights on the championship, they are poised to harness Brooklyn’s stellar performance to propel them to victory on Tuesday.
The SDSU Men’s basketball team pulled out a hard fought victory in what could only be called a defensive showcase. Behind the strong play of Luke Appel who had 10 points 6 rebounds and 6 assists.
It was a very balanced scoring attack for the Jackrabbits as the team was led by Charlie Easley who put the game on ice hitting five free throws down the stretch to close it out. Kalen Garry has put in some big minutes for the Jacks this tournament. Only logging 15 minutes, his defense against Raheem Anthony was vital in the first half. He also logged six points hitting a couple crucial threes when the Jackrabbit offense was stalled.
As the Jackrabbits set their sights on the finals they await the winner of Omaha and Denver, both teams the Jacks had struggles with at times in the regular season. They swept the series vs Omaha and split the Denver series. The Jacks have started playing on a different level the last month of the season behind their strong defense and timely shooting. If they bring the same level of intensity on the defensive end on Tuesday they should be looking to punch their ticket to the NCAA tournament.
