Omaha Women’s Basketball coming off of an 8-23 season losing to South Dakota State in the Summit League Quarterfinals has a lot of work to do coming into this season. This will be Carrier Banks 5th season in charge of this basketball program and a lot has to be desired after last season being terrible on defense and the team not playing very well until postseason time. This season Omaha only returns five players from last seasons roster due to players graduating, transfer portal, and leaving the program for other various reasons. The returners are Grace Cave (the lead scorer from last season), Cora Olsen, Morgann Gardner, Katie Keitges, and Ali Stephens. Ten new players join this Omaha roster including two players from Australia (Harriet Ford and Kyana Weir). This team will look totally different as a result and see how they handle this system. If Omaha Women’s Basketball wants success this season, they need to show up and play some defense which was lacking all last season except for the last couple games. Several players will need to get hot shooting the three such as Grace Cave and Cora Olsen, not commit silly turnovers and fouls, and watch for different setups by the opposing team.
This season Omaha is picked 9th out of nine teams in the Summit League just as I predicted (hopefully I am wrong). The nonconference schedule is not a very easy one at all. Their first game of the season will be on Monday November 4th at noon, at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln against #23 Nebrasketball. Nebraska picked up a 5 star recruit and the best high school girls basketball player in the state of Nebraska Britt Prince who could be the next Caitlin Clark. It will not be a very easy game at all since it is a day game, there will be a bunch of screaming kids just like the 2022 edition where Omaha lost 100-36.
