PLAYERS OF THE YEAR (so far)

Posted on January 4, 2022January 4, 2022 By Jordan Decker No Comments on PLAYERS OF THE YEAR (so far)

According to the schedule, we are about a quarter of the way through the Summit League schedule. So, the voters decided to choose their Player of the Year candidates for Senior, Junior, Sophomore, and Freshman. Below are the fan’s choices. Enjoy!

SENIOR OF THE YEAR: Chloe Lamb, South Dakota (@littlelamb_22)

One of the early favorites for Summit League Player of the Year has been nothing short of spectacular in league play so far. In one of the season’s better scoring performances, Lamb went off for 27 points (22 in the first half-outscoring NDSU) on 10-16 shooting. The Onida, South Dakota native is averaging 17.5 ppg, 3.8 rpg, and 3.5 apg through the first four games of Summit League action. Lamb is also shooting 50% from deep (12-24), good enough for most threes made in the league, and number 2 in the league in three-point percentage. The super senior is also leading the league in total minutes played thus far (135 minutes). She has exactly zero blocks in Summit League action this year, something I’m sure she will work on.

ALSO NOMINATED: Danni Nichols (Western Illinois) | Elena Pilakouta (Omaha)

JUNIOR OF THE YEAR: Kacie Borowicz, North Dakota (@BorowiczKacie)

Kacie leads a very talented group of Juniors into our first quarter award. All the players listed below had multiple votes. Borowicz went off in the conference opener against NDSU. She scored a team-high 25 points, while adding seven rebounds and four assists. Overall, she is averaging 16.7 ppg and 5.7 rpg in league play. Her 16.7 ppg is good for fifth overall in the Summit League.

ALSO NOMINATED: Ryan Cobbins (North Dakota State)  | Uju Ezeudu (Denver)

SOPHOMORE OF THE YEAR: Jada Thorpe (@thorpe_jada)

Jada had a great first three games of Summit League play. In her first three games she is averaging 12.7 ppg and 3.7 rpg. Her scoring is currently second on the team while she is tied for first in steals. She currently leads the team in 3-pointers made and is shooting 50% from behind-the-arc during league play-good for third in the Summit League. Fans should keep an eye out on Jada as she will continue to heat up from deep.

ALSO NOMINATED: Katie Keitges (Omaha)

FRESHMEN OF THE YEAR: Tirzah Moore, Oral Roberts

Tirzah is becoming a regular as our Freshman of the week winner. So no surprise she was voted for as Freshmen of the year thus far-she has earned it! In three league games so far, she leads Oral Roberts in scoring (16.3 ppg), FG percentage (57%), rebounding (7 rpg), and blocks (3). She is currently seventh in the Summit league in blocks. Look for this freshman to keep improving as she looks to finish on one of the All-Summit League teams.

ALSO NOMINATED: Paige Meyer (South Dakota State)

North Dakota, Oral Roberts, South Dakota, Western Illinois, Women's Basketball
