Kansas City was the second history-making team in Sioux Falls today, as Head Coach Dionnah Jackson-Durrett snagged her first Summit League Tournament win. The Roos were battling from behind from tip-off to the 3:00 minute mark of the fourth quarter, when they took a one-point lead over the Denver Pioneers.
Manna Mensah netted 30 points for the Roos. E’Lease Stafford followed with 11. Sanaa’ St. Andre tallied nine, including the three-pointer at the final buzzer that won the game for Kansas City. Machia Mullens pulled down 12 rebounds to lead the defensive effort.
Kansas City will attempt to capitalize on the momentum when it faces No. 2 North Dakota State on Saturday.
Denver was led by Emma Smith, who tallied 18 points and notched her 20th double-figure scoring game of the season. Emily Counsel and Ally Haar downed 12 points apiece. Denver attempted 38 three-pointers, which is the second most in Summit League Tournament history. It made 13.
Denver finishes the season 8-10 in the conference, and 12-18 overall.
