South Dakota State took down St. Thomas in the quarterfinal round of the Summit League Basketball Tournament Saturday, 87-59.
The Jacks trailed 14-18 after the turnover-laden first quarter, but went up 26-20 halfway through the second and never looked back.
Myah Selland and Paige Meyer combined for 29 points, with Selland adding eight rebounds to her stat sheet. Brooklyn Meyer and Haleigh Timmer tallied 11 and 10 points, respectively.
SDSU emphasized the inside game and scored 56 of its 87 points in the paint.
Myah Selland says St. Thomas played physically, but the Jacks were able to handle it. “They took us off our lines early, but we did a good job of adjusting and responding as the game went on.” Selland also commented on the versatility and flexibility of the SDSU roster and expressed happiness with how much it has helped them this season.
The Jacks will face the winner of No. 4 South Dakota/No. 5 Oral Roberts on Monday at 12:30 p.m.
St. Thomas was led by Jordyn Glynn’s double-double 18 points and 10 boards, while Jo Langbehn netted 16 for the Tommies.
St. Thomas finishes its second Summit League season 13-17 overall, and 7-11 in league play, having made history with its first Division I postseason win Friday.
