Senior of the week
Guard Evan Gilyard Kansas City
In an incredibly close vote, Gilyard takes this week’s award over Kreuser and his Kansas City teammate Lamar. One of the most impressive parts of Gilyard’s week was Kansas City played 3 games due to a reschedule and won all 3. Gilyard averaged 19.3 points in helping lead the roos to a perfect week. This included another 30 point performance for Gilyard in a win against North Dakota.

Junior of the Week
Guard Sam Griesel North Dakota State
Griesel missed time earlier this season and it put North Dakota State in a hole early in the season. Since his return Griesel’s it was clear how big his absence was. We are starting to see the Bison team we thought we would get since Griesel’s return. Griesel averaged 20.5 pts, 6.5 reb, and 2.5 assists this week. It also included hitting the game-winner in a huge road win over Oral Roberts.

Sophomore of the Week
Guard Kruz Perrot-Hunt South Dakota
By accident, Perrot-Hunt wins the weekly award in different classes. In putting together spreadsheets and the beginning of the year South Dakota had Perrot-Hunt listed as a Junior on the website but adjusted to Sophomore during the year. Probably not surprising given the unique covid year and some teams moving players forward and others keeping in the same class as last year, but worth explaining. Perrot-Hunt continues to be a leader for a South Dakota team currently on a winning streak. Last week Perrot-Hunt scored 22 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and dished out 3 assists in South Dakota’s lone game this week.

Freshmen of the Week
Guard Tevin Smith Denver
Smith was the Summit League Player of the Week this week, so it is probably not surprising that he was the unanimous Reaching the Summit Freshmen of the week also. Denver continues to impress this season after an almost complete roster rebuild from last year, already winning 3 more Summit League games about halfway through than they did all of last year, and Smith is a huge reason why. Smith wins the award for the 3rd time this season.

Defensive Player of the Week
Forward Arkel Lamar Kansas City
Lamar is getting the defensive player of the week award almost exclusively because of his efforts against North Dakota in a big win for the Roos. Lamar spent all game harassing North Dakota guards and bigs. Lamar finished the game with 3 steals, 3 blocks, and kept North Dakota off the glass as well, in what was one of the most impressive single-game defensive performances in the Summit this year.
